Pc Building
We recommend starting with the CPU because it determines most of your component choices. Your motherboard, RAM, and even your need for a graphics card all hinge on what CPU you choose. This is why choosing an Intel or AMD CPU is the first and most critical step of your PC building journey.

PC building is no more difficult than completing a Lego set or building a piece of furniture given you have compatible components. There are so many amazing guides available on online on platforms like YouTube that will take you step by step through the pc builing process. We also recommend joining a PC community like the Newegg Discord that can help you answer questions as they may come up. For informaiton on this topics, we recommend you review our PC building guide and are familiar with the step-by-step process.
We're going with the Phanteks Eclipse P300A as our chassis of choice. When we reviewed the P300A, we lauded its great air flow, ease of building and attractive looks. The case has room for up to two 140mm front fans, a single 140mm top fan and a single 120mm rear fan, which is more than enough case cooling for this budget.
We're building the system around an MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WIFI , a powerful motherboard with 19 + 1 + 1 power stages, support for DDR5 RAM up to 7600 MHz, 5 x M.2 slots and built-in Wi-Fi 6E. To cool the Core i9-13900K, we're using a 360mm DeepCool LT720 AIO cooler.
The brain of your PC, the CPU is responsible for executing instructions that are required for programs to run, dictating tasks to all other components. It impacts every facet of your experience, including gaming, streaming, content creation, and multitasking. Choosing the right CPU is essential when building a gaming PC.
One of the best things about building a gaming PC is that the job is never truly finished. You can further customize your build to meet your needs and update it with the latest hardware as gaming system requirements advance. The custom PC you just built will serve as your foundation for all the gaming experiences ahead, and fine-tuning your components is all part of the fun of owning it.

If you want some help with building a balanced part list, we update two different guides weekly that will give you a good place to start. They essentially give you ready-to-go part lists that are balanced and that can be used as-is, or modified to your liking.
The other thing that you want to avoid is building on surfaces where there is a lot of potential for static electricity. This, of course, mostly means to avoid building on carpet surfaces. While rare, static electricity can cause major problems with your build. So, it is a good idea to avoid it.
And, what happens a lot of the time is that a new builder fails to push their components in all the way, then goes completely through the building process, tries to turn on their system, and either gets an error, or nothing happens.
Furthermore, avoid building on surfaces where there's potential for static electricity. These include surfaces like carpets and rugs. If you have a table, there's no need to worry about this step. Just make sure to place everything on the table itself, which is why you need a large-sized table for this process.
If you think this will cause you trouble during the PC building process, note down all the installed components on a piece of paper and plug in all their cables in the end. If your system won't turn on, ensure everything's plugged in and seated correctly.
Okay, this one isn't specifically regarding PC building, but it sure does help if something goes pop before it should. Make sure you keep all of your PC hardware warranty documents in one place and register the hardware that requires it, as you might get an extra year of coverage for doing so.
But even though these tips are aimed at PC building beginners, believe it or not, even seasoned PC builders make these same mistakes from time to time. Furthermore, as new hardware launches and designs change, we all have to learn new PC building techniques to go with them, so there is always more to learn when building a new PC.
Recently the art of PC building took a turn for the meta when developers Claudiu Kiss and The Irregular Corporation built a fastidious simulation of the activity. Shrewdly, they called it PC Building Simulator and it's quickly garnered an Early Access fanbase which I'm very much part of. The premise is irresistibly simple: construct PCs in first-person from scratch in a virtual office, running an IT support/repair business as you go. Buy components, get them delivered, put them in people's machines.
No small part of the appeal here is that as PC gamers we're perfectly positioned to judge the authenticity of the experience, to a degree that's rarely true of sims in this ilk. My Summer Car (opens in new tab) could be spouting all sorts of nonsense about building a car, for example, and most players would be none the wiser. Do you know where the halfshaft goes? What does a clutch cover plate look like? And as lovable as Euro Truck Simulator is, does it really feel like that to reverse-park an artic? We take the game at its word.
It can even shine a light on troubleshooting. If you power a machine on and something's amiss inside, you might boot to the OS and then get a BSOD when you try to run 3DMark. Using the message on that blue screen and a spot of Googling, it's up to you to fix whatever snafu you created inside the case. One of the most daunting aspects of system-building is the idea that a mistake might break hundreds of dollars worth of kit, so there's value in going through the motions somewhere free from consequences.
Attaching the internal power, reset and LED connectors to those tiny 1-pin mobo sockets with a manual in one hand, aiming for a 1mm target, is glossed over here, too. The same goes for losing screws, and forgetting which sizes went where. In a former life as a staffer for a PC parts magazine whose daily duties involved building and tearing down systems, I spent an entire morning in a panic having lost the case screws to a particularly expensive machine we had in on loan to review. Hands shaking, shirt sticky against my back, I eventually found them on the underside of a magnetic bowl we used to keep screws in so that they didn't get lost. The underside of a bowl.

Since memory and storage take a large chunk of the cost of a new computer, building your own PC gives you the flexibility to save on these components if you wish. While RAM and SSD costs rise with the amount of capacity they offer, they can be less expensive than buying pre-installed components that are often inadequate and need to be upgraded quickly.
The price of building a PC depends on the specification of the components you're buying. Generally speaking, building a PC will initially be more expensive. In the long run, however, you'll save money because it's less likely you'll need to replace components, and, if you do need to, they're easier to fix.
Pre-built computers can get you up and running quickly but often have limited components or other drawbacks that can come back to bite you. Building a PC is the route to choose in terms of quality. However, components can get expensive, and user error can end up costing hundreds of dollars. Either way, there are several factors to consider that can make a significant difference no matter which option you end up choosing. Luckily, this guide will tell you everything you need to know about building vs buying a PC, so you can determine which is right for you.
Successfully completing a new PC build is one of the most rewarding feelings there is. After hours of research and work, you will have a powerful machine that will function for a long time to come. Unfortunately, putting that new PC together can get rather stressful. Everything from compatibility issues to user error can make the process exponentially more difficult and expensive. There are luckily a ton of resources out there that make building a PC possible for anyone.
After thinking about all the pros and cons, you hopefully have a better idea of whether building or buying a PC is right for you. Both methods achieve the same goal but take very different paths getting there.
